Mr. Kim is passionate about social justice and impact. With an extensive leadership and management background in the social sector, he has led and grown several non-profit community-based organizations, served as a Mayoral appointee for the City of Los Angeles, and led a philanthropic regional civic engagement initiative in San Diego, California.

He is currently serving as CEO/co-founder of a new social enterprise that supports and invests in impact entrepreneurs who are tackling social problems. Impact Without Borders is focused on narrowing the knowledge and resource gap for impact entrepreneurs and investors in San Diego. Prior to this, Mr. Kim recently served as the Vice President/Executive Director to lead the startup of a new initiative for the San Diego Foundation - the region’s largest philanthropy. Selected from a nationwide search, he was brought on to lead a region wide civic engagement process to engage leaders from diverse sectors and communities to determine how the Foundation could best leverage its social and philanthropic capital to address the needs of diverse communities throughout the region. Prior to working for the San Diego Foundation, Mr. Kim was appointed by then Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to serve as the General Manager for the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. Approved by a majority of voters as part of the City’s Charter reform in 1998, the department’s purpose is to improve government responsiveness to local concerns through a city-wide network of over 95 Neighborhood Councils. Mr. Kim was a recipient of the NAACP Equality Award, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Drum Major Award, and the California Wellness Foundation’s Peace Award in recognition of his efforts to fight for the civil rights of all people. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University.
