5D 2012: THE AUDIENCE SPEAKS!
In advance of the New Year, the 5D Institute is pleased to announce the first of a
series of 2012 Distributed Conference events under the 5D banner: 5D at the Berlin
Film Festival. Beginning with this exciting event, in the coming year 5D will be
focused on the creative and collaborative implications of the digital workspace for the immersive designer and
all makers working in the fields of narrative media.
Look for a unique and global series of narrative design events that focus on the new
role of worldbuilding as a core practice in the future of storytelling, and place the
audience in the center of the discussion.

After the success of the 5D panel and masterclass at the 2011 Berlinale Talent
Campus, the 5D Institute will again collaborate with the BTC for the 2012 edition.
This is an amazing opportunity for collaborative discussion between 5 incredible
thought leaders and more than 350 up-and-coming filmmakers from around the
world. This fascinating encounter will take place in Berlin on February 11-16, 2011.

5D AT FMX
STUTTGART, GERMANY - MAY 8-12, 2012
5D is excited to announce the date for FMX 2012, the 17th Conference on
Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia: May 8-11, 2012.
With a strong focus on Virtual Production set to take the stage this year, FMX is
delighted to welcome the 5D | Institute back again, in what will become an exciting
and timely discussion on Worldbuilding in the virtual environment, curated by Alex
McDowell, production designer, creative director of 5D and FMX Advisory Board
member. Here he discusses the track:
"The time is now, we are immersed in digital - tools, process and experience - and
every part of the storytelling process needs to acknowledge the reality of Virtual
Production. The 5D Institute is focused on immersive design and the creative process for
building story worlds. At FMX, we’ll present and discuss worldbuilding, in 4 parts:
Inception - imagining and developing the world;
Prototyping - testing the world and the narrative it contains;
Manufacturing - building the world, real or virtual, for studio and capture;
and Finishing - final resolution and the audience experience."
