After the success of the 5D "Play as Process" panel and masterclass at the 2011 Berlinale Talent Campus, the 5D Institute will again be part of the Talent Campus, curating 2 new events for the 2012 edition.
Curated by Juan DiazB, "Building Narrative Worlds: Digital Design for Cinema" will focus on the cinematic applications of design as the backbone of digital film making. A panel bringing together Alex McDowell, co-director of the 5D Institute and production designer (Fight Club, Minority Report), together with Habib Zargarpour, Senior Art Director of Microsoft Games, production designer Uli Hanisch (The International, Perfume) and international artist Thomas Demand, moderated by Andrew Shoben (founder of art practice pranksters Greyworld) will engage the Talent Campus audience in a privileged conversation on Worldbuilding, immersive design and the virtual production process.
This illustrious panel of designers and artists will explain how screenwriters, filmmakers, designers and producers can create unique visual worlds as the settings for their films. Our world is the product of millennia of visionary designs, inventions, and creations by imaginative thinkers who have envisioned the possibilities beyond the limits of current reality. Designers who are tasked with creating entirely new worlds and alternate universes must be able to traverse virtual space in order to imagine and render these narrative worlds for the big bang of digital media. The discussion will connect a holistic conception of immersive design to a new process of creative collaboration, using the powerful link between the digital workspace, a non-linear work flow, and a new understanding of virtual production.
