Richard Berg was born in Toronto Canada where he resided until age 41 when he moved to Los Angeles. In Toronto, he studied Fine Arts (BFA Honors, York University) and Architecture (B. Arch, University of Toronto) and practiced briefly in both fields as a Graphic Designer and Architect for a large firm in Toronto. As an Architect he had the opportunity to work along side Pritzker Prize winning Architect Santiago Calatrava on the final stages of the BCE Place office tower in Toronto.
Shortly after moving to L.A. in 1992, he shifted into the film and television business. After Art Directing some award winning Music Videos, such as Nine Inch Nails (Closer), Madonna (Bedtime Story), Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson (Scream), Mr. Berg transitioned into series television, where he joined Jerry Bruckheimer’s team in designing shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI Miami and Miami Medical. He is responsible for the Production Design of numerous hit television shows and is currently the designer of the series “Modern Family”, “Dallas” and “1600 Penn”. He has won the prestigious Art Directors Guild Award in both 2011 and 2012 for Modern Family, and has been nominated for two Emmys. He currently resides in Los Angeles and has a wife and son.

 

Richard is a member of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800.
