In 2006, F. King Alexander was appointed the sixth President of California State University, Long Beach—one of the largest and most diverse universities in the nation. Since Alexander’s appointment, CSU Long Beach has made great strides, gaining international recognition as a teaching-intensive, research-driven institution that emphasizes student achievement, civic participation and global perspectives.


Alexander is an internationally respected expert in higher education finance and public policy and frequently publishes in national journals and for organizations in this field. He also works continuously to facilitate new federal legislation on behalf of all public higher education institutions. He has served as a reviewer, an editorial board member, and a university instructor and faculty member, teaching courses in higher education finance, law, history and current events.


Alexander currently serves on the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Public Purpose and Policy Committee and the American Council on Education. Prior service includes the board of directors for the United Way of Kentucky and a membership in the American Council on Education Policy Advisory Committee. Alexander’s honors include the National Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education, and he was voted the California State Student Association President of the Year in 2010
