Mark Z. Danielewski is the bestselling author of House of Leaves and National Book Award finalist Only Revolutions. He is currently writing The Familiar, a 27-volume novel about a 12-year-old girl who finds a kitten.

On October 16, Pantheon Books will release The Fifty Year Sword. Said Publishers Weekly of the new book, “This first American edition of Danielewski’s novella, published in a different form in the Netherlands in 2005, has the theatrical quality of a children’s ghost story, complete with stitched-art illustrations (designed by the author), sweeping themes, and fairy-tale tropes… This would be well-suited to an oral reading and may be best thought of as an objet d’art that chillingly holds us accountable for our worst thoughts.”

The book release will be accompanied by a 12-city tour featuring staged readings in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and at REDCAT in Los Angeles, and will include original music composed and performed by world-renowned pianist/NPR host Christopher O’Riley.
