Dr. Jerry R. Schubel is President and CEO of the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. He also serves as the Director
of the Aquarium’s Marine Conservation Research Institute and its Aquatic Forum. He is President emeritus of the New England
Aquarium.


From 1974-1994 he was Dean and Director of Stony Brook University’s Marine Sciences Research Center. He has written extensively
for both scientific journals as well as for general audiences. He has published over 200 scientific papers and is the author or editor of
several books including: The Living Chesapeake includes a selection of his photographs. He has long been active in regional, national
and international environmental affairs associated with the environment, particularly the coastal ocean. He holds a Ph.D. in oceanography
from Johns Hopkins University and received an honorary doctorate from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He has
served and continues to serve on a number of local, regional, state, national, and international committees and panels. One of his
areas of focus at the Aquarium of the Pacific is to use art in all its modalities to convey scientific and environmental messages to the
public. He and his wife, Margaret, have written the scripts for a number of award-winning short films produced by the Aquarium.
